Feature

I recenlty received an email from the pocketchange.com blog team who sent me the following message:

"I have been following your blog for the last few months and I am very impressed with your analysis of designs and styles in and around the home. We have a décor and design blog Be@Home, that offers hints and tips for the amateur interior designer. We are always looking to feature new websites that have content relevant to our readers and would therefore love to share your blog".

So of course I said yes! And they introduced My Lazy Apples to their readers in the newest edition of their Carnival of Shopping newsletter.

diy

I  love to sew which means I always have huge piles made up of many tiny little scraps of fabric lying about. I am always trying to come up with ways to use them so they aren't wasted (some are really pretty, which is why I keep them in the first place). I was totally inspired by a fabric wreath I found the other day, see this post, and thought that it would be a fun project to use some of my scraps on. It was soo easy, you can do it too!

You will need:

scissors
wire wreath frame thingy
fabric scraps cut into strips

1. Cut fabric into strips about 1 1/2" wide and as long as you prefer (I did three different lengths).

Having a cute baby around always helps to make any project more fun.

2. Remove scraps from baby's head and tie in knots around the wire.

3. Continue all the way around on each ring and you now have a lovely scrap wreath!

Good job!!!

On another note, I'll be having surgery tomorrow so I may go missing for a few more days. I hope to be back by mid-week with some fun posts to share with you. Wish me luck!!!!

Giveaway!!!!

My grandmother often crocheted, though knitting was her thing. She tried numerous times to teach me to crochet and I would forget it as soon as she wasn't there assisting me. But I do think that crocheted items are just super lovely. That is why I'm excited to tell you about this weeks giveaway from Frankiesartwork! She will be giving one lucky reader a lovely pair of crocheted earrings from her shop! If you have a moment, you should take a peak at the other neat items that she has listed. She is a crafter at heart, this I can tell because she has a rather eclectic mix of items and seems to me that she just loves to create. I know someone else just like that (hint: she is typing this post, hehe).

Here are some of my favorites!

Here is a little bit about Frankie.

My name is Francesca, but you can call me Frankie if you want. I am indeed a female, but it's fun to confuse people. I am currently in college at University of Texas at Austin and I am majoring in Studio Art and minoring in Computer Science. Frankie's Artwork came to be from my love of making art. I have tons of hobbies from crocheting to drawing to writing and much more. I try every hobby once because I love to keep myself on my toes so my shop reflects my hobbies. I just decided it was time to take them to the next level by trying to sell them. I'm still trying to find my corner.

This is what you could win.

Just a little overwhelmed

Oh boy, have I been feeling stretched thin as of late. The last couple of weeks have been so crazy and the craziness just seems to keep on coming! This week brings my aunt for a visit, my mom is in surgery as I type, I found out yesterday that I have to have a super large kidney stone surgically removed sometime in the next week cause it has left my kidney and got itself stuck (ouch!!!!!), we have to go visit my cousins and their babes, darling husband is super busy with work, last night we celebrated my brothers bday, and so much more than I can even bare to type right now.

So please excuse a brief absence as I try and pull my life together. I will do my best to post a few inspirational and cool finds over the next week or two and you will definitely see some really cool giveaways coming your way but I may not be here everyday. I'm so sorry!!!!

Local, Fresh and Organic

As supporters of local business and locally grown food plus our desire to eat healthy, organic fruits, vegetables and even meats when we can, our little family frequents local farmers markets and the smaller health food markets in our area. One thing that we have learned from years of doing this is that it gets incredibly expensive and you must visit these markets frequently in order to keep fresh food in the house (in other words, you can't buy too much at once cause it goes bad quickly). So, I wonder why I didn't do this sooner, cause this morning I signed us up to receive  Berkshire Organics. And I'm soooo excited!!!

This is a little market in our area that carries, you guessed it, local, organic foods. They have a lovely little store in Pittsfield where they offer prepared baskets filled with a variety of fruits and vegetables (whatever looks best and is in season) and you can add other items such as local eggs, meats, dairy, etc. Or you could just go do some shopping at the store. But thats not even the best part! It is totally affordable! In fact, we will be saving money and getting even more that we usually do from our local stores. Plus we are guaranteed local, organic foods which aren't always available in stores. But wait!...it gets even better...they deliver!!!!!  Every Friday I will have a fresh basket of yummy food dropped right on my front porch! I no longer have to drive 20 minutes to get to one of the few decent grocery stores in the area just to get our dinner.

Like I said, I wonder why I didn't do this sooner! If you live in the area you should seriously look into signing up. If you don't live in the area you should do some research and see if there is a local co-op or business such as this available to you. You, your family and your local farmers will benefit immensely from it. Our Earth will too!!!!

Oh, of course farmers markets are great too! We love them and I look forward to going each week, and I will continue to go to get a few of my favorites: breads, cheeses and spreads.

my babe

my sick girl

Hello my dears,

So sorry to have missed two days of posts. Rory has been a sick little girl and I've been trying my best to ease her discomfort and still get some work done, so a few things had to go the wayside and unfortunately my blog was one of them. I spent the better part of today trying to get my daydreaming post (supposed to be posted yesterday) together and a Rory is six months old now post done, but alas my sweet babe needs her mommy and it was all for nothing. So this week is a bit of a wash (last week was too). However, tomorrow a new giveaway will be up and that is something to look forward to.

I leave you to return to my little love as she has woken up and is in need of a cuddle. Oh, did I mention that I am pretty sure that a tooth will be coming quite soon, that hasn't helped our situation out at all.

Best,
Jamie

Giveaway!!!!

I'm very happy to introduce the talented and super crafty Carolina of Pikithins who will be giving one lucky reader the Oriental Bracelet from her shop. If you visit her, you will find a variety of items as she is one crafty gal. From stuffed toys to really lovely and eclectic jewelry to note cards and more! Go have a peak and when you come back, I'll tell you a little bit more about Piki.

I'll wait!

Okay, these are  just a few my favorites from her shop.

Here is a little bit about

Pikithins.
My name is Carolina and I come from New York. I've been enjoying crafts ever since elementary school. I've never been a person for following the actual directions to creating a card, or a piece of jewelry when it comes to crafts. Instead, I like to complicate the process by trying to figure out how an item was made by looking at a picture. It gives me the opportunity to create my own techniques. Plus, its a fun little puzzle game that keeps my brain entertained =). In this way, I've been able to work in different materials and crafts like felt, wood, acrylics, embroidery floss, macrame, jewelry, and doll making. The play between color and functionality is what I feel makes my items attractive and fun. Without those, my little world of rainbows prancing over skies would be ruined by fussy clouds of rain =).

Find her here:

This is what you could win.

Sparking with oriental flavor, this bracelet is decorated with a green hollow bead with a stripe design on its surface.
