Local, Fresh and Organic

As supporters of local business and locally grown food plus our desire to eat healthy, organic fruits, vegetables and even meats when we can, our little family frequents local farmers markets and the smaller health food markets in our area. One thing that we have learned from years of doing this is that it gets incredibly expensive and you must visit these markets frequently in order to keep fresh food in the house (in other words, you can't buy too much at once cause it goes bad quickly). So, I wonder why I didn't do this sooner, cause this morning I signed us up to receive  Berkshire Organics. And I'm soooo excited!!!

This is a little market in our area that carries, you guessed it, local, organic foods. They have a lovely little store in Pittsfield where they offer prepared baskets filled with a variety of fruits and vegetables (whatever looks best and is in season) and you can add other items such as local eggs, meats, dairy, etc. Or you could just go do some shopping at the store. But thats not even the best part! It is totally affordable! In fact, we will be saving money and getting even more that we usually do from our local stores. Plus we are guaranteed local, organic foods which aren't always available in stores. But wait!...it gets even better...they deliver!!!!!  Every Friday I will have a fresh basket of yummy food dropped right on my front porch! I no longer have to drive 20 minutes to get to one of the few decent grocery stores in the area just to get our dinner.

Like I said, I wonder why I didn't do this sooner! If you live in the area you should seriously look into signing up. If you don't live in the area you should do some research and see if there is a local co-op or business such as this available to you. You, your family and your local farmers will benefit immensely from it. Our Earth will too!!!!

Oh, of course farmers markets are great too! We love them and I look forward to going each week, and I will continue to go to get a few of my favorites: breads, cheeses and spreads.

Oh how lucky are you. I do hit the farmer's market, but we don't have this great service.
